trotley.com is run by Talea Investments LLC (“Trotley”, “we”, “us”). This page says what personal information we handle, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: [email protected].
The short version
- The site is for families. The forms on it are for adults.
- We ask for one piece of personal information: a grown-up's email address, to give you the free printables and to send Trotley Club news.
- We don't ask children for personal information, and we don't want it.
- We count visits with Google Analytics. On the pages for grown-ups and on the pages opened from the QR codes in our books, we use the Meta Pixel to measure our ads. The Games and Videos pages, the children's page of Trotley's Hoof Song and the two pages of Trotley Detectives (the children's page with the game, and the page for grown-ups) carry no advertising tools.
- We don't sell personal information.
What we collect
Your email address (Trotley Club)
When you send a Trotley Club form, we receive the email address you type, the language of the page and the date. The form asks you to confirm that you are 18 or older; without that it is not sent. We use this information to give you the free printables and to email you about new Trotley books, games, bonus activities and offers. We email only when there's news, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
Trotley's Mailbag
If you email us a child's drawing or letter, we receive your email address, your message and the attachment. We read it and may reply. We ask for your permission before showing a creation anywhere in public. Please leave out your child's full name, school, address, phone number and other personal details. If they arrive anyway, we don't use them.
Messages you send us
If you write to [email protected] or [email protected], we keep the message for as long as we need it to answer you and to keep a record of your request.
Technical data
Like every website, ours is delivered by servers that record technical data to keep the site safe and working: the IP address, the date and time, the page requested and the type of browser. Our hosting provider and our content delivery network process this data for us. The content delivery network may set a cookie that is strictly needed to tell real visitors from automated traffic.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits: which pages are opened, from which country and kind of device, and which buttons are used (for example a button to Amazon, a download, a sign-up). On the pages of the first four games it also counts when a game is started and when it is finished. The page of the detective game, Case Closed, Trotley!, has no counting code at all: nothing is counted there. It sets cookies that recognize a browser on later visits. We have switched off its advertising features, so it is not used to build advertising profiles or to show ads.
Meta Pixel
On the pages made for grown-ups (Home, Books, Free printables, Trotley Club and its thank-you page, For Grown-Ups) and on the pages opened from the QR codes in our books (except the children's page of Trotley's Hoof Song and the two pages of Trotley Detectives), we use the Meta Pixel. It tells Meta that a browser visited one of these pages or joined the Trotley Club, so we can measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram and show Trotley ads to grown-ups who visited. It sets a cookie. It is not on the Games page, the Videos page, the children's page of Trotley's Hoof Song or the two pages of Trotley Detectives.
Your choice
- If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Brazil, neither tool loads until you say OK in the cookie notice.
- From other places they load by default, and you can switch them off at any time with the “Cookies” link at the bottom of every page.
- If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the Meta Pixel does not load unless you say OK.
- Your answer is kept in your browser, not on our servers. Clearing this site's data in your browser clears it.
Other notes kept in your browser
After you join the Club, the site saves a small note in your browser so it doesn't ask for your email again on that device. The note stays on your device and is not sent to us.
- Trotley's Hoof Band. The game keeps two things in your browser, on your device only: your best result and whether the sound is on. None of this is sent to us.
- Color with Trotley. The coloring game keeps your pictures and whether the sound is on in your browser, on your device only. None of this is sent to us. “Save” puts a copy of a picture on your device.
- Trotley's Puzzles. The puzzle game keeps your stars, an unfinished puzzle and whether the sound is on in your browser, on your device only. None of this is sent to us.
- Trotley's Mazes. The maze game keeps how many mazes you have finished, which friend you found last, which friends you found without help and whether the sound is on in your browser, on your device only. None of this is sent to us.
- Case Closed, Trotley! The detective game asks for no information and sends us nothing. It keeps only your progress (the cases you closed and your sound choice) in your browser, on your device, and it has a button to erase it.
What we don't do
- No accounts and no passwords.
- No advertising tools on the Games and Videos pages or on the children's pages of Trotley's Hoof Song and Trotley Detectives.
- No sale of personal information.
Children
Trotley's books, games and printables are made for children, and the site is meant to be enjoyed by a child together with a grown-up. The Trotley Club and every form on this site are for adults 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the games can be played without giving any. On the Games and Videos pages and on the children's pages of Trotley's Hoof Song and Trotley Detectives there is no advertising tool. Google Analytics counts visits there and, in the first four games, when a game is started and when it is finished. The page of the detective game counts nothing. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
Amazon links and affiliate disclosure
Some links on trotley.com go to Amazon. They are affiliate links: if you click one and buy, Amazon pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. When you click, Amazon may set cookies and collect information under Amazon's own privacy notice. The Games pages contain no Amazon links.
Who helps us
A small number of service providers process personal information for us:
- ActiveCampaign (United States) keeps the Trotley Club list and sends our emails. It records whether an email was opened or a link was clicked, and it estimates a contact's general location from the IP address.
- Google (United States) provides Google Analytics.
- Meta (United States) provides the Meta Pixel and shows our ads on Facebook and Instagram.
- KingHost (Brazil) hosts the website and our mailboxes.
- Cloudflare (United States, with servers around the world) delivers the site and protects it. It also counts visits to each page, without cookies (Cloudflare Web Analytics).
Links to Amazon, Instagram and YouTube take you to those services, which handle your information under their own policies. Book purchases happen on Amazon: we never see your payment details or your address.
Videos on this site are played by YouTube. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play; from then on YouTube handles your information under its own policy.
How long we keep it
- Trotley Club: for as long as you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep only your address on a do-not-email list, so we don't email you again by mistake, unless you ask us to delete it.
- Mailbag emails and other messages: for as long as we need them to answer you and to keep a record of what you allowed us to show. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
- Google Analytics: up to 14 months.
- Server records: for the period set by our providers.
Your choices and your rights
You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in any of our emails, and change your cookie answer with the “Cookies” link at the bottom of every page. You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it: write to [email protected]. We aim to answer within 30 days.
Depending on where you live (for example the European Union, the United Kingdom, Brazil or some US states), the law gives you these and other rights, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Where the law asks for a legal basis (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom and Brazil): we send Club emails and use Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time; we handle Mailbag and contact messages to answer your request; and we keep server records because we have a legitimate interest in a safe, working site.
Where the information is processed
We and our providers process information in the United States and in Brazil, and it may be processed in other countries where our providers operate. Their data protection rules may differ from those of your country.
Changes
When we change this page, we change the date at the top. If a change matters to Club members, we tell them by email.
