Never late (he says)

Dawson

His story is on the way

A proud little rooster who crows at every hour… except the right one.

Dawson, a small orange rooster with a red comb, a sleep mask on his forehead and an alarm clock on his chest, crowing with his wings open.

Dawson is a small, proud rooster with a big arching tail, a sleep mask pushed up on his forehead and an alarm clock hanging around his neck. He has one big dream: to wake up the whole farm.

There's just one problem. Dawson sleeps with his mask over his eyes, so the sun comes up without him. And his alarm clock is never, ever right. So he crows at lunchtime. He crows in the afternoon. He crows “Good morning, everybody!” at sunset.

Is he late? Not according to Dawson. He checks his clock very seriously and announces, “I'm not late. Everyone else is early!” He's never grumpy and never out of energy. Morning, noon or sunset, Dawson is ready.

Read The Scarecrow Never Moves all the way to the last page. Dawson’s own story is on the way.

You might be a little like Dawson if…

  • …you're SURE it's time to get up… but it's still dark.
  • …you have tons of energy, at any hour.
  • …you say “Good morning!” at snack time.

For grown-ups

Dawson is the proudest, most well-meaning rooster on any farm, and he's always a little off schedule. He means every word: he believes his clock completely and greets the day at full volume, whatever time the day happens to be. The fun is all in the timing.

Read together, then ask: If Dawson said “Good morning!” at sunset, what would you say back?
